Rockhampton Rhomberg to deliver $15M track maintenance contract for BRC

7th April 2022

Rockhampton’s Rhomberg Rail has won a multimillion-dollar contract to maintain the Carmichael Rail Network and Bowen Rail Company’s (BRC) Provisioning Yard.

BRC General Manager Brendan Lane said the $15 million contract would see Rhomberg keep the 200-kilometre railway and the Bowen-based rail yard in world-class condition for the next five years.

The contract is the latest in many the business has signed with regional Queensland suppliers for the construction and maintenance of its new railway line and next-generation rollingstock.

“Delivery of preventative maintenance is critical to the safety and performance of the Carmichael Network, so we’re delighted to announce Rhomberg as our track maintenance partner,” Mr Lane said.

“Rhomberg is a terrific example of the kind of expertise regional Queensland has to offer.

“This contract follows their successful involvement in the construction of our provisioning yard and that experience gives them invaluable insight into our business, and us confidence we’re getting a team of skilled and knowledgeable people that work to the highest Australian standards.”

Rhomberg Rail Queensland Manager Rod Sweeney said up to 20 skilled workers would be needed to service the contract on peak network maintenance days. That manpower workforce will be supported by plant and machinery in another win for regional equipment suppliers.

“It’s rare you’re able to get in on the ground floor with a quality business like Bowen Rail Company,” Mr Sweeney said.

“Our people are excited to be able to continue to contribute to BRC’s journey and are motivated to make sure this significant infrastructure investment is properly maintained for the benefit of generations to come.”
